You signed up for the Hive Membership and set up your profile. Now a client wants to meet in person, and you’re probably wondering: Does my Hive Membership include access to an hourly office?
It doesn’t. The Hive is a community and directory made just for therapists. You get a public profile and access to a therapists-only Discussion Forum. If you want office space, that’s a separate add-on, and you’ll need to upgrade to a paid plan. Despite what many people think, upgrading is actually pretty simple, and the price might be lower than you expect.
Let’s take a closer look at what’s included with your Hive Membership, what’s not, and what to do if you ever need a room for in-person sessions.
What’s Actually Included with Hive Membership
The Hive is free in 2026. That alone makes it worth understanding clearly.
With a Hive membership, you get a professional profile that’s visible to the public. Potential clients can find you, learn about your specialties, and get in touch with you directly. The directory is SEO-optimized, so people searching online can actually discover you, not just pass you by.
You’ll also have access to a Discussion Forum for therapists only. You can share resources and cross-referrals with other licensed therapists. You get the peer support you miss out on in solo practice.
What you won’t find with Hive is office access. There aren’t any options for hourly, part-time, or full-time space. Hive is meant for connection and helping you get noticed. If you want to book an office, that’s a separate part of the membership altogether.
Why This Distinction Trips People Up
It’s easy to see why this gets confusing. When you hear the word “membership,” you expect to get access to things. Plus, Hive really does offer a lot on its own.
So, if a client wants to meet in person and you log in expecting to find a booking button, and that booking button isn’t there, you’d get frustrated; that’s understandable.
This separation was intentional. Think about it, not every therapist needs office space. If you work entirely online, you still get plenty of value from being in the directory and joining the forum. If office access were included for everyone, the free membership wouldn’t make much sense, and it would likely push out therapists who don’t need a physical space.
This setup ensures you only pay for what you need.
The Research Behind Why In-Person Still Matters
You might be wondering if making the effort for in-person sessions is actually worth it. The numbers say it is.
A 2025 report based on Trilliant Health data found that behavioral health visits in the U.S. hit 66.4 million in 2024, which actually topped primary care visits at 62.8 million. About two-thirds of all telehealth visits were for behavioral health, showing just how much virtual mental health care has taken off.
At this point, hybrid care isn’t just a trend. It’s become the standard.
At the same time, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics expects mental health counselor jobs to grow by 17% from 2024 to 2034. That’s much faster than the average for other careers. There’s more demand all the time, and therapists who offer in-person options are in a stronger position to meet it.
Still, another analysis from the Kaiser Family Foundation found that in 2024, only 26.4% of mental health care needs were being met. More than 122 million people in the U.S. live in places where it’s tough to find a mental health professional. Even in a city like New York, there’s a shortage.
The therapists who help close that gap are the ones who show up when clients need them, including for in-person appointments.
Your Upgrade Options: What Changes When You Add Office Access
Hive gets you started, but when you want to book office space, you’ve got two options to choose from.
The Bumblebee Plan ($19/month)
This is the starter plan for office access. For $19 each month, you can reserve private therapy offices by the hour. You keep your Hive profile and forum access. Hourly rates start at $49 for interior offices and go up to $64 if you want a window view.
Bumblebee makes the most sense if you only see clients in person now and then, maybe a few times a month, but not every week. You’re only paying for the time you actually use. It’s low-commitment and flexible.
The Honeybee Plan ($149/month)
Honeybee gives you two extras you don’t get with Bumblebee: a professional business address on 5th Avenue and monthly mail forwarding. It also lowers your hourly office rates quite a bit, down to $35 for interior offices and $49 for a window spot.
If you’re coming into the office every week, or you need a DEA-compliant address for your license, Honeybee usually pays for itself after just a few uses. The lower hourly rate is what makes the difference. Book the office four times in a month, and you’ve already saved more than the plan costs.
The math is straightforward. All you need to know is which group you fit into.
What the TherapyHive Office Setup Actually Looks Like
If you haven’t been there yet, here’s what you can expect.
You’ll find TherapyHive offices at 220 Fifth Avenue, inside the Croisic Building in Midtown Manhattan. The building’s easy to get to by subway, so it works well for clients no matter which borough they’re coming from.
These offices are built for therapy. They’re quiet, with soundproofing, and there’s plenty of natural light. It’s the kind of space that helps you do your work, not one you have to work around. You can pick an interior office or go for a window office with a view of Fifth Avenue. The price changes depending on which one you choose.
You can book a room from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays, and from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturdays. Each booking is at least two hours. If you need a last-minute spot, you can reserve a room up to an hour before your session, or plan and book up to two months in advance.
Once you’ve got office access, getting a room is quick. Your KISI entry gets set up when you join. After that, you just book your room, confirm the payment, and walk in when it’s time. That’s all there is to it.
What If You’re Already a Hive Member and Need Office Access Fast?
You can upgrade your plan, but there’s something important to keep in mind.
Plan changes come with a 30-day notice. If you request an upgrade today, it won’t kick in right away. You’ll need to wait those 30 days for your new plan to start. This rule surprises a lot of people.
If you need office access sooner, reach out to TherapyHive directly at info@therapyhivenyc.com and let us know what’s going on. We can’t make exceptions for everyone, but if your situation is urgent, it’s still worth asking.
For everyone else, it makes sense to upgrade before you actually need the office. The Bumblebee plan is just $19 a month, which is less than most co-working day passes in New York. There’s no reason to wait until a client is already asking.
Your Practice Is Growing. Your Membership Should Too.
Hive is a great place to start. You get a free profile, a searchable directory, and a community forum filled with therapists who are in the same situation as you. That’s no small thing.
But things change as your practice grows. Clients start asking for in-person sessions. Suddenly, having a 5th Avenue address matters a lot more than you thought it would. That’s where the Bumblebee and Honeybee plans come in.
TherapyHive was created by a therapist who knew that private practice evolves. The membership options are set up with that in mind. You begin where you are, and you upgrade when your practice is ready for it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the free Hive Membership come with any office access?
No, it doesn’t. With the free Hive Membership, you get a directory profile and access to the therapist-only Discussion Forum. If you want to book an office, you’ll need to upgrade to either the Bumblebee or Honeybee plan.
What’s the most affordable way to book office space at TherapyHive?
That would be the Bumblebee Plan. For $19 a month, you can book offices by the hour, with rates starting at $49 for interior rooms.
Do I lose any Hive benefits if I upgrade my plan?
Not at all. Your directory profile and forum access stay with you when you upgrade. You’re just adding office access to what you already have.
Should I choose the Honeybee Plan if I only see clients in person once a week?
It really comes down to how many hours you’re booking. Honeybee’s lower hourly rates can make up for the higher monthly fee if you use the office four or more times a month. It’s worth doing the math for your own schedule.
If I have a group practice, do every therapist need their own membership?
Not always. You can add team members to the Bumblebee, Carpenter Bee, or Honeybee plans for $9 a month each. Every added member gets their own building access to book rooms.
Does the Hive Membership work for DEA requirements?
No, the basic Hive Membership doesn’t include a business address. The Honeybee Plan, at $149 a month, gives you a professional 5th Avenue address that meets DEA and state requirements. Always double-check with your licensing board to be sure.
